Creating a strong first impression is imperative in order to cut through the constant noise on the internet. By providing answers to frequently asked questions, you allow your organization to be memorable.

While your homepage needs to be aesthetically pleasing, it can also be strategically designed to improve UX that will lead users through the customer journey.

Does your homepage answer the following?

1. Why Should they choose you over your competitors?

  • Show you’re the best choice versus just saying it.
    • If you’re a fitness studio that is committed to inspiring people to live a happier and healthier lifestyle, show people. If your fitness studio offers unique classes compared to your competitors, make that known.
  • This can be difficult to pull off without looking too sales-y.
    • Use testimonials, videos and photos to communicate more effectively.

2. What is the purpose of your brand?

  • Explain your products or services that your brand offers.
    • Being clear with your visitors allows for more time to convince them you’re the brand they should be using.
  • Put your key message at the top of your homepage.
    • Use photos to show your product or service and use text to support your message.
    • Remember to keep the text short and sweet.

3. Who are you talking to?

  • The ultimate goal is for your target customer to land on your homepage and think, “Wow, they understand me and know exactly what I’m searching for.”
  • Being able to full understand your audience will help them know that your brand is right for them.
  • Photos and videos of real people using your product or service will give viewers the opportunity to relate and picture themselves using your service.

4. What are you asking them to do?

  • People want to be told what to do. Place specific call-to-action buttons throughout your homepage.
    • Do you want them to sign up for your weekly newsletter, buy a ticket to your event or book an appointment with you?
  • Your call to action button must stand out from the other content.
    • Use contrast or bright colours and display it strategically.

Be confident in your homepage and put it to the test! Design is not set in stone, so make changes if you notice inconsistencies or issues.
